On June 21, 1970, Brookings hosted its first marathon, appropriately named the Longest Day Marathon. In 2004, the course was revised and the race name changed to the Brookings Marathon. 2011 marks our 42nd anniversary, making it one of the oldest marathons in the US.

The Brookings Marathon and Half Marathon features many wonderful trails and routes within the city. Over the past few years the race has seen considerable growth and is considered to be a "favorite" by many who have participated.
